Lions Acquire DT Haloti Ngata from Ravens

The Detroit Lions have acquired veteran defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and a 7th round draft pick from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for 4th and 5th round draft picks.
Ngata, 31, is a five-time Pro Bowl player who had been the foundation for the Ravens' run defense. He was enjoying one of the best seasons of his career last year before getting suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
The trade freed up $8.5 million of much needed cap space for the Ravens. The deal helps beef up a Lions defense that could suffer substantially from the loss of free agent Ndamukong Suh, who is expected to sigh with the Miami Dolphins. The Lions could also lose Nick Fairley, a free agent who is reportedly coveted by the Indianapolis Colts.
