Lt. Gov. Calley fighting the stigma after audio tapes surface disparaging mentally disabled
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is facing more detractors over alleged audio recordings of the mayor disparaging people with special needs. Fouts was fired from his radio show, and now Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley is taking a stand against the inflammatory comments.
Lt. Gov. Calley has called a news conference Tuesday morning to "defend [the] dignity and value of all Michiganders." The news conference is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. You can watch live on our YouTube page here.
Calley has also started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help the Arc of Michigan run an anti-stigma campaign. Calley says on the GoFundMe Page that the audio recordings contain "the most shocking and reprehensible verbal assault on our most vulnerable citizens that I have ever heard."
The audio recordings, allegedly of Fouts, were released last week by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel who said a city worker gave it to him. You can listen to the recordings below.
