Man charged in 'revenge porn' case

It has become a big issue and last spring "revenge porn" was outlawed in Michigan. Now, one bad decision could send a Bloomfield Hills man to prison.

25-year-old Andrew Roche of Bloomfield Hills was so upset his girlfriend broke up with him, that he posted several nude photos of his ex on a website created to humiliate and shame former lovers and partners.

This happened without her consent and with her personal contact information.

It’s called revenge porn and as of last spring it’s against the law in Michigan.

Fox 2 Legal Analyst Charlie Langton: Relatively new but the idea is to protect your privacy. These are intimate pictures to be only shared between two people, but when you put them on the internet for everyone to see that's what the law wants to prevent.

The Charlevoix County Prosecutor’s Office which described this crime as sexualized violence mainly against women charged Roche with unlawful posting of a message, a two-year felony.

Reportedly, Roche who is a former Detroit Country Day coach posted the nude selfies of his ex, which were sent while they were in a relationship.

They were viewed more than 50,000 times.

His ex-girlfriend learned about the internet posts after receiving an anonymous call and messages from those who saw the revealing photos.

Prosecutors claim the young woman was victimized every time a person viewed the picture. Ironically, Langton says likely again when the case heads to trial in February.

"The woman who was victimized now has to get on the stand and say: Here are the pictures they're of me naked I don't want them on there and she will be victimized again," Langton said.

Roche no longer works as a coach at Detroit Country Day.
