Michigan snow forecast: Lake effect snow, squalls to hit Metro Detroit on Wednesday
DETROIT (FOX 2) - After a comfortable start to the week, snow and cold move in mid-week, with the potential to make for a messy drive Wednesday evening.
Temperatures will reach the low 40s Tuesday, but will only make it to the mid-30s Wednesday, and wind will make it feel even colder.
Some snowflakes are possible in the daytime on Wednesday, but the bulk of it won't arrive until the afternoon. It will fall into the night, at times becoming heavy.
As the snow falls, winds will pick up to around 30 mph. This lake effect snow combined with wind could lead to snow squalls in the evening, making it difficult to see at times.
Snow totals are tricky to pin down right now because they depend on if an area is under a squall or not. Southeast Michigan falls into a general range of 1-2 inches, but if you are not underneath a snow squall, your totals will be significantly less.
Alternatively, if you are under one of the snow squalls, there’s a possibility you could see totals pile up slightly faster, meaning locally some spots could get closer to 3 inches, but this remains more true for areas closer to Lansing.
