Neighbors find man fatally stabbed in apartment hallway on Detroit's westside

Detroit police were called to the Avon Place apartments on telegraph near 6 mile around 4am Wednesday. The neighbors, heard a loud argument and scuffle. However, they were unprepared for what they discovered on the second floor.

“I was appalled, I looked down that hallway and he didn’t deserve that,” Neighbor Betty Nance said.

Shauane Lee was found brutally stabbed in the chest lying on the hallway floor of the apartment. Police say as they sort out the witness statement that a person of possible interest is Marchello Washington. 

The suspect is also a resident of the Avon Place apartments. Several neighbors say the same man who stabbed Lee stabbed another neighbor not long ago. The previous stabbing was about eight months ago according to neighbors and reported to the police. 

Police describe Washington as a black man, about 6 feet tall and in his mid-thirties. Neighbors say he goes by the nickname “Chello.”
