For many today is the day to give thanks, but perhaps we can take a cue from a chef from Clinton Township.

Who shows us how he's grateful every day.

There were many times corporate chef Chuck Sansone worked his delicious magic in the FOX 2 kitchen.

But in a split second  on a sunny day last July, his life changed completely.

"A distracted diver hit me going 55 miles per hour, “Chuck said. "I felt a big explosion. I knew it wasn't good from the very beginning.

Now paralyzed at 52 years old, Chuck is learning  to live life differently.

"I learned you can cope but you have to have a positive attitude," he said.

Chuck does traditional therapy at DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, but being back in the kitchen is his true love.

"When I'm cooking all my problems go away,"  he said.

Chuck is sharing his passion with other patients at rim, teaching them how to cook, even with a disability.

His spinal cord is still intact and Chuck is hopeful that someday he will walk again.

Until then, he's thankful for each day,  as he focuses on what he can do.

"It could have worse,” he said. “I could have been dead."
