Props - or flops? Shoppers disappointed in memorabilia auction

PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - It wasn't long ago Michigan became a popular location for Hollywood movies.

The major studios chose our state to produce blockbuster films. On Friday the public was invited to a memorabilia auction that featured props from such movies.

Some stood in line for nearly two hours Friday morning outside Gate 2 on Campus Drive in Pontiac.

"I was excited to get here," said one man.

FOX 2: "And then what?"

"It was pretty disappointing," he said. "It's just clothes. And there's some dishes."

It's not like people were expecting to see the Bat Mobile parked out front but what they found was hardly close.

"It’s kind of like a bad thrift store in there right now," said another man.

Promoted as a two-day movie studio prop auction in Pontiac from movies largely made in Michigan before the state tax credit ended. IT promised items from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Transformers and Oz the Great and Powerful.

"It wasn't too bad, I think it was pretty fun," said one man. "It's a lot of extras stuff - like the guy who wore a sweater in the background."

Other were less impressed.

"Chairs, a lot of chairs," said one woman.

"It's just a bunch of old, crummy furniture," said another man.

"Office chairs, filing cabinets," a woman said.

"There's grody clothes," a woman said. "That's about it."
  
While some still took advantage - items like picture frames, salt and pepper shakers and even garbage bags were had.

Many still left bummed out with another cloud of disappointment.

"The part that disappoints me is the fact that the Michigan Film Incentive went away," said one woman.

"It feels like the wake of the Michigan film industry, which could've been amazing and was starting to become amazing," said one man. "So thanks Governor Snyder."

The event organizer, who refused to speak with FOX 2 or allow our cameras inside, said every item there has been on the big screen.
