Red Wings hosting Military Appreciation Night

DETROIT - DETROIT (WJBK) -- The Detroit Red Wings will host their eighth annual Military Appreciation Night on Friday, when the team takes on the San Jose Sharks at 7:30 p.m.

The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Military Appreciation Night T-shirt.

Volunteers from Blue Star Mothers of America Chapter 180 will be on hand to collect care package items and monetary donations at each entrance of Joe Louis Arena when the doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Suggested care package items include:

  • Wet wipes (cleaning wipes and individual hand wipes)
  • Hygiene items: travel size shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, deodorant, razors, shaving cream (not in an aerosol can), toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.
  • Socks and t-shirts (must be dark brown or khaki)
  • DVDs
  • Laundry detergent and fabric softeners (unscented)
  • Chapstick and sunscreen
  • Gum
  • Powdered drink mixes and individual packets
  • Magazines, books and CDs
  • Playing cards
  • Disposable cameras
  • Hard candy

 

Red Wings Camouflage Jerseys
The Red Wings will wear custom camouflage jerseys during pregame warm-ups to be auctioned online through http://auctions.nhl.com/ prior to the game on Friday. Each jersey will also come with the camo socks worn by the respective Red Wings player. The funds raised in the jersey auction will benefit Help For Our Disabled Troops, a military charity committed to helping disabled veterans who have returned home with serious injuries since September 11, 2001.

Special Military Ticket Savings
Special military tickets have been reserved and are available for a limited time for all military personnel, as well as their family and friends, starting at $37 apiece for upper-level seats.
