SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - A month ago, Derek Kevra bravely declared that ‘winter is over’. What he meant by that was not that we wouldn't get any more snow or ice - we've gotten plenty since then - but the depths of winter are over. Meaning - the deep, cold, and snowy conditions that we usually drag through in February were over. We're seeing another blast of snow on Friday and that will mean school closings on Friday.
A winter storm warning was issued for southeast Michigan starting at 1 p.m.on Friday through 2 a.m. on Saturday. We expect to see around 3 to 6 for some and 4-8 for others – while Monroe County could see zero. By 6:30 a.m. on Friday, roughly 50 schools canceled afternoon or evening activities because of the storm

For the most part, we're looking at between 3 and 6 inches in Wayne, Macomb, and Lenawee counties. Meanwhile, Washtenaw, Livingston, and Oakland counties are going to be in the 4 to 8 inch range. Northern Livington County, Jackson, Shiawasee, and Genesee counties are all in the 8 to 10 inch range by the time we get to 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Either way - we can expect to see many Metro Detroit and southeast Michigan schools closing on Friday.

Friday's heavy, wet snow could bring 10 inches to parts of Southeast Michigan
Friday's snow will start around 1 p.m. and get heavy by the afternoon as more and more moisture is pumped in from the south - that means this snow is going to be extremely heavy.
The heaviest snowfall rates will be about 1 to 2 inches per hour - particularly Friday afternoon.
Temperatures will be suppressed by strong easterly winds that blow in 35-40 mph throughout the day.
Once we get through Friday, we'll be back into the mid-40s by the weekend. See? The deep depths of winter are behind us.
