A strange sludge on the ground has police shutting down traffic near the Melvindale and Detroit border.

Police cars were at the scene Tuesday evening near Schaefer and I-75 where the foamy sludge seems to have collected along the street.

The scene is near the Marathon Refinery but there are no details if it is connected. Residents who live in nearby say that there is a strong odor coming from the area.

FOX 2 viewer Denny McLeod sent photos from his car of the brownish-white foam, running down the street.
