Teen killed, brother hurt when woman fleeing police in Warren crashes into them
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - A teenage girl was killed Sunday night in Warren by a driver fleeing police.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said a female driver fleeing police blew through several stop signs, causing a crash in the area of Lappin and Schoenherr around 8 p.m. A 19-year-old girl was killed and her 15-year-old brother was hurt.
Police tried to pull the suspect over in the area of Fairfield and Eight Mile Road but say that she didn't stop. She continued on for about a mile blowing through several stop signs, Dwyer said.
Dwyer said the suspect slammed into the victims' vehicle, and that the 19-year-old died at the hospital.
Dwyer said the 28-year-old woman had suspected crack cocaine inside her car, and that she has a history of drug violations and was on probation. He said she also has a history of fleeing and eluding police.
Dwyer said police were not speeding after the suspect, and that the accident was caused because she blew through stop signs. The woman was eventually taken into custody.
Police didn't elaborate yet on how badly the 15-year-old boy was hurt. The siblings' names have also not yet been given.
