Thieves ram car into beauty shop, take $50k worth of hair extensions

Police are investigating a break-in overnight at a beauty store on Detroit's northwest side.

The owner of AR Virgin Hair, Carolyn Gillette, got a call from her alarm company around 4 a.m. Wednesday and drove to the store, which is on Telegraph Road just south of Seven Mile Road. She discovered someone had rammed a truck into the building.

The suspects got inside and grabbed whatever they could, and got away with around $40,000 to $50,000 of hair extensions and hair bundles. Authorities believe the suspects will try to sell the goods to other beauty supply stores.

Gillette says the store will be closed for awhile as the crash caused structural damage to the building.

"It's unfortunate. It's a sad thing," she says. "I don't feel like it was worth it, to do all this damage."

She says she has security cameras inside, and police are reviewing the tapes to look for a description of the suspects and the vehicle used to ram the building.
