Troy Police: One in custody after homicide involving 61-year-old woman

Troy Police are investigating a homicide that happened at a resident in the 2100 block of Shelley. 

Authorities say officers were dispatched to the location around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday to check the welfare of a resident, at the request of a family member. 

Upon arriving, officers learned that the 61-year-old female resident has not been seen since Monday. In the beginning, officers were unable to locate the woman and began treating this situation as a missing person investigation.

Eventually the woman was found deceased in the residence. Authorities say there has been efforts made to conceal the body and obvious trauma was observed. At that point, investigators determined that it was apparent woman was victim of a homicide. 

Authorities say the investigation led to the son of the victim being taken into custody. The victim's roommate was also taken in for further questioning. 

Troy Police say they are confident that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
