Veteran finally honored with medals earned in Korean War

A special ceremony was held on Veterans Day this year in Detroit to give honors that were long overdue to a veteran.

Army Major Jesse Smith served and fought in the Korean War and earned medals that he never recieved - until now.

His family says the records of Major Smith's unit were lost in a fire, but the family was undettered and eventually tracked down the right people so he could officially recieve the medals.

"It makes me realize that somebody is thinking about me, even after all this time not being in the military. And I'm enjoying it," he said.

Not only did this ceremony happen on Veterans Day -- but it was also Major Jesse Smith's 91st birthday.
