Fatal West Bloomfield fire: House had no working smoke detectors
Authorities said a house where a fire broke out Sunday in West Bloomfield had no working smoke detectors. Three children were killed.
(FOX 2) - Local police and fire officials are returning to the scene of a fatal house fire in West Bloomfield Township where three youths died late Sunday night.
Law enforcement are executing a search warrant at the residence in the 50000 block of Pembury Lane, a news release from the West Bloomfield Police Department said Tuesday.
What we know:
Police are continuing to investigate the deadly fire and are following up their investigation on Tuesday.
Both police detectives and fire personnel are executing a search warrant at the home "to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this fire to determine to the greatest extent possible what happened."
The release added that a 911 call from a resident inside the home on fire reported they could not get out during the blaze.
The escalation could indicate a possible criminal investigation.
Any findings from West Bloomfield will be sent to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
What we don't know:
It's unclear what police may be searching for on their return to the home.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown as well as why the victims - a 16-year-old female, a 15-year-old male, and a 12-year-old male - could not exit the home during the fire.
"I’m not sure at this time, so I know the police department has interviewed the parents and I just don’t have the results of the interview, so I’m not sure where they were at the time of the fire," West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Byron Turnquist told FOX 2 on Monday.
The backstory:
Officials responded to Pembury Lane around 8 p.m. Sunday night after a 911 call reporting a fire.
Three young people were confirmed dead after being transported to the hospital.
Preliminary details from fire officials confirmed there were no working smoke detectors inside the home during the fire.
