3 children die after being pulled from burning West Bloomfield home

A house fire Sunday in West Bloomfield killed three siblings, authorities said.

Fire crews were called to a home in the 5000 block of Pembury Lane just before 8 p.m. on reports that people were trapped inside a burning house.

What we know:

When firefighters arrived, they forced their way through the front door and searched the home.

A 12-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl were found in the home and taken to a hospital, where they all died.

What we don't know:

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The home did not have working smoke detectors. Fire officials using the tragedy to remind people to make sure theirs are working.

"Working smoke alarms will give you that early notification if there is a problem, and it's just very important. Test those smoke alarms, make sure that they work," West Bloomfield Fire Marshal Byron Turnquist said.

Turnquist also recommended making sure that you identify two exits out of each room in case there is a fire.

"This is a point that we really need to drive home after this incident," he said.
