Woman dead, man injured in Detroit shooting, police suspect murder-suicide attempt

The Detroit Police Department is investigating a shooting where a 30-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured. Police say they believe this was a murder and attempted suicide.

According to police, they were called to the Jefferson Square Apartments, south of Jefferson Ave and just west of Dickerson Ave in the Jefferson-Chalmers district around 3:30 Wednesday morning.

When police entered the apartment, they found a 30-year-old black woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A black man, in his late 20s, was also shot but was still alive.

The man was taken to the hospital but his condition is not known.

According to police, the upstairs neighbor heard an argument and then the gunshots.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Police are still investigating.
