Young teen killed on bike crossing Nine Mile

WARREN. Mich. - In Warren a teen was killed trying to cross the street.There are plenty of unanswered questions in the accident, which killed a young victim who was about 13 or 14 years old.

Police are working to identify him and notify his family. He had no ID or cell phone on him.

"He was on his bike crossing the street and obviously whoever hit him didn't even see him," said one witness.

The witness, who did not want to be identified, came to the boy's aid after a man driving a red Camaro struck him Wednesday evening.

Dispatchers got the 911 call a little after 6:30 p.m. The boy may have died before first responders arrived.

"I rushed to the scene to see if he was still alive, no response," said the witness. "I checked for a pulse, there was no response, nothing."

The driver was heading westbound on Nine Mile just east of Weller when he struck the cyclist. He is cooperating with the investigation.

A Warren police watch commander says alcohol was not a factor. A witness who did not want to be identified says speed was a factor.

"It's very sad that people have to drive that fast down a main road like that," the witness said. "To hit a young kid."

It is the second fatal traffic accident in less than a week. A man driving a pickup truck hit 58-year-old woman Nov. 12. She was walking across Nine Mile Road near Van Dyke.

And earlier that day an 8-year-old boy was hit by a car while walking across Eight Mile with his family.

It is unclear if the driver in this case will be facing any charges.

UPDATE Nov. 19, 8:08 AM: Police say they know the identity of the teen now, but are not yet releasing his name.
