Melvindale police release dashcam in deadly crash

MDOC and Dearborn police joined Melvindale officers at the scene where officials say Smith got in and out of the car multiple times and tried to restart the vehicle to drive off again. Bodycam video shows officers taking precautions, guns drawn, screaming for Smith to show his hands multiple times.  Officers in the video also warned each other that it looked like Smith was "reaching." 

UM president-elect diagnosed with brain cancer

Syverud has been diagnosed with a form of brain cancer and is undergoing treatment. As a result the regents announced current president Domenico Grasso will continue to serve as president until the next president is found. The board is planning to re-start the search process to find a new president. Syverud said he was diagnosed last week.

As of 4 p.m. the water has gone down slightly at 6.84 inches below the top. At the Cheboygan dam, the Michigan DNR and other crews are working around the clock to make sure the water is flowing. The area has been packed with supersacks or large sandbags, while large pumps were going. The DNR said around noon that the water was fluctuating. It rises and falls, so the levels will change, meaning no need to panic.

Clean up underway after violent spring storms

A Subway at Outer Drive and Dix experienced severe damage. Early Wednesday, the parking lot was littered with bricks and insulation, while part of the building had a hole in the top. Other reports of damage include multiple trees down in Garden City, Dearborn, and Wayne.
