Helm, Mrazek lead Red Wings to 4-1 win over Hurricanes

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - After two months of struggles, Darren Helm finally had the breakout game he's been seeking. Helm had a goal and two assists, Petr Mrazek stopped 36 shots, and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Friday night. Helm's goal was his first since Dec. 5, and he also had his first multi-assist game of the season.

Red Wings beat Sharks 2-1 in shootout

DETROIT (AP) - Petr Mrazek capped an impressive January with another sharp performance. Mrazek made 30 saves, and then stopped Tomas Hertl in the seventh round of a shootout to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. Mrazek went 3-1-1 in January with two shutouts and a .940 save percentage, easily his best month of the season.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Tom Izzo sat Cassius Winston at the beginning of the second half, benching his point guard to send a message. It seemed to work. Miles Bridges had 23 points and Winston scored 12 of his 15 points after halftime and finished with 10 assists, helping No. 5 Michigan State come back from a double-digit deficit to beat Penn State 76-68 on Wednesday night.

Drummond added to All-Star game in place of injured Wall

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond has been added to the NBA All-Star Game, replacing injured Washington guard John Wall . The Pistons announced Drummond's selection Tuesday night. Drummond is an All-Star for the second time. He also represented the Pistons in 2016. He entered Tuesday night's game against Cleveland averaging 14.7 points and 15.1 rebounds.
