MSP's Trooper 2 assists in arrest of man running from Allen Park police

A man led Allen Park Police officers on a chase through the city, and then was pursued by the Michigan State Police with group troopers and the Trooper 2 helicopter.  The vehicle eventually came to a stop in Detroit, when the driver and passenger both tried to flee.  The 23-year-old female passenger was left behind by the suspect and was taken into custody.  The driver continued running through the neighborhood with troopers close behind him. A Taser was deployed and the 34-year-old suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Stoney Creek High School students have lost both parents in recent years

City officials are still investigating what caused the Friday night partial collapse at the parking structure.  One person was trapped inside the structure for multiple hours before he was pulled to safety.

Economist :  partial government shutdown likely to have only nominal economic impact

In an interview with Hilary Golston, University of New Haven economist and attorney Dr. Brian Marks says the current partial government shutdown is expected to have only a nominal impact on the broader U.S. economy if it remains short-lived. Marks explains that while some federal workers and contractors may face temporary disruptions, most essential government functions continue and the overall economic engine remains intact. He notes markets and businesses have largely priced in short shutdowns, and unless the impasse drags on for an extended period, the national economic effect is likely to be limited and largely symbolic rather than structurally damaging.

Shiver on the River held on Belle Isle

Friends of the Detroit River hosted the Shiver on the River Eco Fair on Saturday on Belle Isle.  The event was held inside the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, as well as across parts of the island.  There were free caricature drawings, a magic show, ice carvings, winter hiking and more. “The Shiver on the River is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our natural resources and the local organizations dedicated to protecting them.  We are thrilled to expand the event to more areas of Belle Isle this year. While Michigan’s winters may be chilly, the Shiver on the River offers exciting indoor and outdoor opportunities to engage with the work FDR and our partners do year-round,” said Stewardship Director McKenzi Waliczek.
