Metro Detroit weather: Wintry mix arrives late to create a slick, messy Thursday morning commute

A quiet start to your Wednesday, but a wintry mix arrives tonight, making for a messy drive tomorrow morning.

A few evening snow showers are possible, but the main event kicks off around midnight, with widespread precipitation in place by 3 a.m. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain all will fall overnight.

Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will taper off during the morning commute, but a bit of freezing drizzle could linger through mid-morning.

Ice totals are forecasted to be up to .10 inch, while up to an inch of snow could fall.

While it doesn't seem like a lot, it is enough to coat roads and create dangerous conditions. The Thursday morning commute is predicted to be slick.

Additionally, that ice will coat power lines, too, creating a chance for power outages.

It's enough in Wayne, Washtenaw, Monroe, and Lenawee counties to prompt a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Thursday. Even outside the advisory, travel will be tricky.

Snow and sleet totals stay on the lighter side, with around an inch expected.

Temps climb back above freezing Thursday before the cold returns Friday, along with another shot at snow on Saturday.
