(FOX 2) - Downtown Detroit has a new restaurant in the books, located in the former Michigan Oriental Theater near Grand Circus Park.
It's called Pao Detroit, and it's a Pan-Asian restaurant with an eclectic atmosphere and menu.
General manager Thomas Rossana and Chef Alex Farhat joined us on The Nine to tell us more about the restaurant and their food. You can hear from them in the video player above, and get their coconut shrimp recipe below.
4 gulf shrimp
1 cup flour
1 cup Panko breading
½ cup shredded coconut
¼ cup toasted coconut
¼ cup coconut milk
¼ sweet chili
Mix shredded coconut, and panko. In separate mixing bowl mix egg. Add flour to separate bowl. Bread each shrimp flour first, egg, then panko mixture.
In blender purée mango and pineapple until very smooth.
In small fryer or pot fry shrimp until golden brown, place shrimp in pan with sweet chili and coconut milk until sauce thickens.
Spread puree on plate, place shrimp, sprinkle toasted coconut.
