Traditional Shepherd's Pie for St. Patrick's Day

It's hearty comfort food that will fill you up, whether it's St. Patrick's Day or not. 

Richard Kohl and Chef Mike Clugston of Pat O'Brien's in St. Clair Shores, visited the Fox2 Kitchen Saturday morning to cook up some traditional Irish dishes, including their signature Shepherd's Pie.

Recipe:
½ lbs. Ground Chuck
½ lbs. Ground lamb
1 cup Celery diced
1 cup onion diced
½ cup carrot diced
½ cup frozen corn
½ cup frozen peas
1 bay leave
¼ tsp. margarine
¼ tsp. thyme
1 ½ cups Shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups of your favorite brown gravy
½ cup Guinness beer
2 cups mashed potatoes
 
Brown grounded meat in large frying pan and drain, add carrot, onion, celery, peas, and corn, cook on medium heat covered for 8 min until vegetables are tender.  Add Guinness beer and ½ of the brown gravy, simmer for 3 min.  While stirring transfer to casserole dish and top with mashed potatoes and smooth evenly.  Add cheddar cheese and the remaining brown gravy. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 min.
