13-year-old is third death from fire at Eastpointe home

A deadly fire in Eastpointe has claimed a third life after a 13-year-old girl died from her injuries a couple days after she was pulled from the burning home.

Anja Radosavac, 13, was the third person to die from the terrible fire early Saturday morning. It already killed her mom, Steve and Jasmina. 

Fire dispatch received several calls of a home on fire in the 21000 block of Nevada around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.  When officers arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. 

Now, Anja's older sister, Mia Radosovac is the soul survivor. But she's not alone. Her godfather, Joe Zago, set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for the family's burials and for Mia so she can somehow hopefully find a way to rebuild her life.

"People loose their parents but no one expects to looe both their parents at the same time. And their sister and their house," Zago said. "They were awesome people. Steve and Yas  I stood in their wedding. I was the godfather for their family 20 years ago. They were married 20 years and they were just awesome people, man."

The cause of the fire is still not known.

Zago remembers Steve for motivating others through his body-building.

"He always wore this hat (that says motivation). At the gym he inspired all the people at the gym. All these people were pushing beyond the limits. That's what he did," Zago said.

Eastpointe Police and Fire investigators are working with state and local partners to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Police also say that it is unknown at this point whether there were any working smoke detectors in the home. It is extremely important to have operational smoke detectors in your home. Smoke detectors can prevent tragedy. Please check your smoke detectors today.
