22-year-old man fatally stabs mother in Westland

A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday accused of fatally stabbing his mother and leading police on a foot chase in Westland.

Police say officers responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. on the 6100 block of Walton, where they discovered a 50-year-old woman had been stabbed to death.

The suspect was established as her 22-year-old son and was located by a Livonia officer in the area of Donna and Joy.

As the officer approached the man, an altercation broke out that resulted in shots being fired.

After a brief chase on foot, the son was arrested in the 8700 block of Randy, with a minor injury from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital and is under guard pending investigation. A motive is not yet known for the stabbing.

Fox 2 spoke with the young man's father, who is stunned and saddened and too distraught to speak. He only says he doesn't know why this happened but does know he's now lost two people he loves.
