It was initially believed by police that Mannes, who was a freshman at Roseville High School, had been with two school friends playing Pokémon Go near 11 Mile and Demerick on 14th. During Thursday's sentencing, it was revealed that Mannes and his friends were throwing rocks at cars when Soucie ran him over.

Mannes died at the scene.

Soucie was found to have a blood alcohol content of .14, more than twice the legal limit. There were also traces of marijuana found in his blood.

On Thursday, family and friends of Mannes took the stand and called for the maximum prison sentence. After listening to them all, the judge in the case sentenced Soucie to 15 years in prison.
