Elderly woman needs plumber to fix flooded basement

“I like to hear the blues. Sit down and just listen to it. Then I start feeling bad start crying.”

That's not the only thing that makes 86-year old Daisy Harrison feel like crying these days. One look at her basement and you can understand why. She says it makes her depressed every time she sees it.

“Every time it rains, the water floods and puts hot water tank out.” 

“I just cry. I’ve never seen this and it’s never been in this shape before.”

Harrison says the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department came out, but city crews soon realized it is a property owner issue and Harrison needs to contact a plumber. It's a service she says she can't afford.

“It just hurts me to talk about it.”

“If there was anything I could do to help my mother - if I had funds I would do it myself,” said Mae Harrison, Daisy’s daughter.

The family says they looked for resources to get help.

“I’ve been calling around places try asking people for help and can't seem to get help,” said Daisy.

So Harrison's basement remains flooded and that has caused a number of other problems.

“Then it's got that smell coming from it, creating flies and stuff,” said Mae.

“I can't wash. I haven't washed in about a month or two,” said Daisy.

The family says their main goal is to keep their mother in the house she has called home since 1970.

“When an elderly person is in their own home they feel more comfortable. You really don't want your mother or your loved one to go to a nursing home,” said Mae.

“I just want to stay in my house. I don't want to give my house up,” said Daisy.

“If anybody could help me out,” said Daisy. “I couldn't thank them enough.”
