Help the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative Build a Children's Sensory Garden

 The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative is hoping to win a grant from Scott's Miracle Gro, to buiild a Children's Sensory Garden in Detroit.

Faced with challenges of vacant land, blighted property, food insecurity and nutritional illiteracy, the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative uses agriculture as a platform to promote education, community and sustainability in Detroit's North End neighbourhood. Creation of the new Children's Sensory Garden will provide a hands-on, outdoor classroom for local youth to experience nature firsthand using their five senses..

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE:SMG) announces its fifth year of the GRO1000 Grassroots Grants award program. GRO1000 rewards deserving communities and not-for-profit civic organizations seeking to develop sustainable community gardens and green spaces.

The program is part of the company's commitment to support the creation of more than 1,000 community gardens and green spaces in the U.S., Canada and Europe by 2018, in conjunction with its 150th anniversary. To date, hundreds of community projects have received GRO1000 funding.
