A lot of people will be out partying Monday night for New Year’s Eve, so it goes without saying, if you drink, don’t drive.

“It destroys lives and far too many,” Christenson said.

Southfield based attorney David Christenson handles injury law and sees the worst of the worst drunk driving cases.

“Went the wrong way on the freeway and one of them was killed and another with a terrible brain injury,” he said.

It's horrible crashes like these that are the inspiration behind the "Safe Ride Home" program - The Christensen Law Firm will reimburse you to get to your final destination safely this New Year's Eve.

“We decided to do our part and what we could to raise awareness about drunk driving,” Christenson said.

It started three years ago and since then has helped almost 15-hundred people get rides. They push the program on some of the busiest drinking days of the year.

They're hoping to break 2-thousand safe rides this New Year's Eve.

“Once you’ve had a few you feel like you can do anything, and that’s the feeling that takes people down the wrong side of the road,” he said.

It works like this - take a cab Uber or Lyft from the establishment where you're ringing 2019…and you are eligible for a reimbursement up to $35 through David's firm.

It's for anyone traveling in metro Detroit, Washtenaw, Genesee, Bay and Kent counties make sure you keep your receipt!

“Email your receipt and your I.D. so we know where to send the check and we’ll reimburse you for your ride,” he said.

David says the human toll of a drunk driving crash is irreplaceable but even if you just get pulled over a DUI can cost as much as 10 thousand dollars once fines and attorney fees are calculated.

Email a copy of your receipt along with a copy of your driver's license to saferidehome@davidchristensenlaw.com to receive a reimbursement of up to $35.
