Man tries to rob 7-Eleven with knife, returns with gun

The Dearborn Heights Police Department has released video of a man who walked into a 7-Eleven and shot at the employee.

Police say a suspect walked into the store on Cherry Hill near Inkster around 4:30 Thursday morning with a loaded gun. First, he shoved a customer out of the way and then shot at the clerk before jumping over the counter.

Police said the man had been to the store about two hours earlier with a knife. The clerk pulled out a baseball bat and chased him out. When the man returned, he meant business.

The man didn't get any cash but did take a bottle of booze before running off.

Police searching for the guy responsible and have already arrested one person they believe is connected to the crime.

Neighbors told FOX 2 they were surprised by what happened.

"That's something that doesn't happen around here but people are getting desperate it looks like," Dearborn Heights resident Mirna Messelmina said.

Customers said people don't think about the consequences of their actions.

"They don't think about what happens after the fact they just think about what they want right now, they don't know it's going to run their life forever and he's going to be in jail for a very long time," Messelmina said.

The man is described as 5'8", in his late 20s or early 30s, with a medium complexion.

The Dearborn Police released video in hopes that someone recognizes him and calls police.
