Mexican man working in Detroit beaten to death on SW side

Police are investigating after a young man's body was found outside a home in Detroit. Police say the 21-year-old was beaten to death.

Edgar Flores came here from Mexico in search of a better life.

"He's a very good man, he didn't do anything to anybody," said Daniel Kiser, a friend. "He was working, sending money back to his family, his girlfriend, he has a child over there, a daughter."

But that came to an end when some family members Flores was staying with found him dead on their front porch in the 8400 block of Longworth at 7:20 Monday morning.

"The family told me they can't find his phone or wallet," Kiser said.

Police are investigating Flores' death as a fatal assault. They have reason to believe he was hit or beaten in the head not far from the house.

Kiser was Flores' friend and next door neighbor.

"I got woken up at 8:50, from a call from a friend, talking about all this," Kiser said. "I came out and saw him lying there on the floor, in a bloody pile. So sad."

Flores was here on a work visa since April, as family members say he was working in commercial roofing.

"That man never had a problem with nobody," Kiser said. "He doesn't even know anybody around here to have a problem with (somebody)."
