Police: Raided store was 'like a 7-11 or Starbucks' for marijuana selling

Police raided a bogus business in Shelby Township last Friday as a medical supply store actually sold marijuana, police say.

"We don't want it here," said Police Chief Robert Shelide. "So if anyone wants to do this kind of stuff or sell it or use it - go do it somewhere else - not in our township."

Shelide showed what was really inside the Advance medical supply store located less than a mile from the police station.

"They said they were going to be selling crutches, walkers etc," Shelide said. "But when the fire inspector went in to do an inspection - they had nothing in there whatsoever."

"We realized that they were running - basically acting as a 7-11 or Starbucks for marijuana."

Police say advance medical supply set up shop in February - but the only supplies they had inside were pot and pot products. Too much to be considered in compliance with the medical marijuana act.

"They're loading these candies, they look like regular candies with marijuana," said Richard Stathakis, township superviser. "And they're also loading cookies and just regular candy wraps with marijuana. They're doing this to our kids.

"This stuff is totally against the law," said Shelide. "This has nothing to do with the medicinal marijuana act."

Instead, the chief says, they were making all of this available to anyone willing to pay.

"Most of the people showing up were white kids in their 20s that all had their buddies in the car," he said. "Complete riff raff were showing up."

Also being sold was "Wax," or gel that's called "Shatter" which is heated up and inhaled, which is more dangerous than regular marijuana, police say.

Police seized 12  pounds of marijuana -  at least $100,000 in product, arrested five men - took four cars and $10,000 in cash. Charges are expected soon.

"If you think that you're going to sell narcotics in Shelby Township," Stathakis said. "You're not going to get away with it. You might be getting away with it now, but it's going to be very short term."
