Steel beam from World Trade Center dedicated at Harper Woods AMVETS post

HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WJBK) - A moment of remembrance and reflection were held across the country to mark the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

A new memorial to commemorate the victims and first responders was dedicated at a ceremony Monday at AMVETS Post No. 57 in Harper Woods.

“It’s a very big honor; this is a big piece of our national history… the attack on our soil, the biggest one ever. Everybody who comes to talk to us about this memorial remembers exactly where they were when the attack happened,” said AMVETS Post No. 57 commander Ray Lacey Jr.

The memorial was created out of a 3-ton piece of rubble and a steel beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

“Always remember and never forget. I believe the generations are losing this part of history. So we’re encouraging educational systems to bring field trips here,” said Katherine Sarvis Adamski from AMVETS Post No. 57.
