Suspect in fatal hit-and-run found dead

A man being sought by police for being involved in a deadly hit-and-run that left one person dead was found Saturday morning deceased according to police.  

Imlay City police and the Lapeer County Sheriffs Department continued searching for the suspect Alexander George Waschull Friday night into Saturday morning.

Police received tips of a large man matching Waschull's description in the area of Newark Road and South Cedar.

Around 3 a.m. a deputy with the Lapeer County Sheriffs Department located a deceased male in the field near that intersection. 

The body was identified as Alexander Waschull and the preliminary investigation shows that he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. 

When Waschull fled the scene on foot he left his vehicle behind which contained numerous loaded weapons according to police. Waschull also had an extensive criminal history.
