Suspicious men seen lurking, attempting to lure children to cars in Westland

One Westland family is upset after a man in a pick-up truck lured their son to his vehicle Saturday afternoon, but was luckily chased off by his father.

“My baby could have been gone,” said his mother, who wished to remain anonymous. "It’s really scary to think that.”

His mother said her 6-year-old son was in their front yard in Westland Meadows neighborhood when a pick-up truck –- a silver or gray Ford F150 with an extended cab -- with a driver and a passenger in the rear seat pulled up.

They lured her son over. She said her son has special needs and it’s difficult for him to tell if someone is dangerous or not.

“The passenger said, ‘Hey little boy could you just come over here?’” his mother said. “And he really was just going to go.”

Fortunately another adult intervened.

“It’s really scary to think that in broad daylight that somebody’s going to come and try to hurt these kids,” his mother said.

The two quickly drove off when the little boy didn’t go with them.

A neighbor said her father saw the same truck lurking in a neighborhood a few hours earlier, gazing at children in their yard.

Witnesses say both men are Caucasian. The driver is described to have dark blonde hair and is estimated to be in his mid-30s to 40s. The passenger has dark hair and is in his early 30s.
