Tackle stress in new year with meditation breathing techniques

No matter what goals you've set in this new year, taking away stress will probably help you do that.

Meditation instructor Erin Covert from Henry Ford Center for Integrated Medicine stopped by to explain how it can help our bodies.

"The main reason why (meditation helps us) is because it switches our body's central nervous system from being in the fight or flight mode to being the relaxation mode," she said. "When we get into the relaxation mode, that's when healing can really happen - mentally physically and emotionally. "

If you say I don't know how to, Erin shows us something we all can try using a breathing technique of 4, 7, 8. Inhale through your nose for a count of 4, hold it for a count of 7, and exhale through your lips like you are blowing out a birthday candle for a count of 8.
