Teen dead after shooting at Roseville graduation party

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) - A teenager is dead after a shooting at a graduation party in Roseville, police said. Police currently have one young man in custody but are still seeking others.

The victim, an 18-year-old Clinton Township resident, died as a result of a shooting that happened around 12:40 a.m. Sunday in the 29000 block of Calahan Road, near 12 Mile and Hayes roads in Roseville.

The victim has been identified as Luke Filary, who went to Chippewa Valley High School where we're told he played football.

"We're all going to miss him," says Austin Diz. "He was a great kid; he made everybody smile and everybody laugh."

Police say a graduation party was happening at the address when the shooting happened. A small group of people were asked to leave the party after an apparent verbal altercation and other people at the home, police said.

A short time later, a silver Pontiac G6 and a dark-colored blue or black sedan came to home. Police said the people in the car got out and began fighting with some people at the home.

During this time, one of occupants of the suspected vehicles got out a gun and fired at least five rounds toward the people at the party. One of the rounds struck Filary, who was transported to the hospital where he died.

The suspected vehicles were last seen going southbound on Calahan. The silver Pontiac G6 has since been located and impounded.

Police have a 20-year-old man from Eastpointe in custody. Police are still currently looking for more people to question, and for the dark-colored sedan. Police haven't yet said if the person in custody is who they believe pulled the trigger.

It is unknown if the suspects, victim, and party-goers are related at this time.

Filary is the nephew of the Roseville Police Chief.
