Two arrested after high speed chase through Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WJBK) - A high speed chase started on the freeway but quickly spread to neighborhood streets on Detroit's west side Wednesday.

Police say the men in the car were responsible for a shooting earlier this week.

The suspects were involved in a shooting that took place in the same neighborhood earlier this week. A car was shot up but nobody was inside.

The police chase started shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday. As police spotted a car wanted for a shooting, the tried to stop the car, said Detroit Police Capt. Harold Rochon.

"My units observed the units at Greenfield and Grand  River, they attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle rammed one of our vehicles and took off and that's when the chase started," Rochon said.

With police right behind them, the driver of the Charger gunned it on I-96.

Wednesday's chase went on for about seven minutes before the white Charger got away from Detroit police. That's when MSP and Livonia Police joined in on the chase.

After leading police through a neighborhood, the driver pulls into an empty lot and jumps out of Charger. He didn't get far.

"The eye in the sky, the helicopter in the sky helped us a great deal with the video," Rochon said. "We were able to apprehend two of the subjects inside two of the vehicles and no suspects was harmed and no police officers were harmed."

The chase finally came to an end near Schoolcraft and Pinehurst. The driver was arrested and so was a second man. However, a third suspect is still on the run.
