Two Detroit Police Officers honored at an event on Michigan Avenue Friday. Several brothers and sisters in blue showed up at McShane's to pay tribute to the life of two officers killed in the line of duty.

The group "Brothers before Others" put the event together to give you an idea of how tough things have been for the Detroit Police Department.  The organization was planning this event for Officer Glenn Doss Jr. who was shot in late January, and in the process Officer Darren Weathers was killed. Two big blows for the department but both men leave as heroes.

But to their families they were more than heroes, they were cherished. No matter how much the community shows its support, there is no way to understand their loss.

"I mean I’m fine with the community support but i would rather have him here," Keisha Dewitt said.

Weathers, killed in a car crash last week while he was on the job.

"He was a wonderful person, everyone says was, but he still is a wonderful person and a wonderful father," Dewitt said.

A man you can't forget, he showed he was a warrior and an officer who showed how he could connect with the community he served.

Everyone in attendance here for Weathers and Officer Glenn Doss Jr. who was shot in the head while responding to a domestic violence call.

Glenn Doss Senior, also a Detroit Police Officer.

"I'm still dealing with the tragic death of my son but I'm taking one day at a time and God is giving me strength every day," he said.

He knows his son touched so many lives, two years on the force before this tragedy happened.

"It’s great the outpouring of love and support from the city as well as the citizens it brings joy to my heart," Doss senior said.

That's exactly what everyone wants the families to know, they're here for them.

This wasn't just a fundraiser it was also an opportunity to have a moment of catharsis. If you or someone you know have a wonderful story about Officer Doss or Officer Weathers, stop into McShane’s and tell them, a moment to come together and remember those great men.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the families of the officers.
