Vet who wrote children's book has misprint with non-kid friendly 'Green Day' content
(WJBK) - A Detroit area veterinarian wrote a children's book to help kids deal with grief after the loss of a pet.
A family ordered that book for their children but after looking through it, it was far from appropriate. Now the author is livid with Amazon.
Local veterinarian Dr. Corey Gut was floored upon learning her book to help kids grieve the loss of their pets, had a major misprint.
"When you are looking to have something that's supposed to help families, I was mortified," she said.
The parents of her daughter's classmate ordered "Being brave for Bailey" only to find the text for Green Day Rising: Life before the Dookie flew” inside.
"'There was nothing green about Green Day except the weed,'" Gut read aloud from the text.
Needless to say, it's far from kid friendly.
"Who doesn't love Green Day," Gut said. "It's a great band but I started flipping through it and the content was inappropriate for children.
"There are a lot of pictures with smoking in it, smoking a joint."
So how did this happen? Dr. Corey called her publisher Archway Publishing to get answers.
"They basically said it's not our problem," she said. "They said if they had ordered it directly from our website, they would be able to track it and fix it. Because they ordered it through Amazon, you need to contact them because Amazon has their own printers."
But Amazon says it only prints the paperback version of the book, not the hardcover one that was ordered.
So for now, how this mix-up happened remains a mystery -- and it's unclear just how many misprints are out there.
"This has my name on this," she said. "And it is a labor of love and I am so proud of these books and what they have done for families and how they have helped children. I feel like it is such a positive thing and now no matter what there's a bit of a stain on it now."
Dr. Corey says the book was in stock at three Amazon Wish Fulfillment Centers but Amazon is not shipping those books out. It is going to check each one to make sure it is the right book. FOX 2 reached out to Archway Publishing's parent company Simon & Shuster but have not received a response.
Gut says she will replace anyone's Green Day book with a free copy of the real book if they contact her at bbfb333@gmail.com.
