Tigers rough up Verlander in 6-3 win over Astros

HOUSTON (AP) - Justin Verlander had a puzzling day on the mound in his first-ever start against his previous team. While Verlander racked up double-digit strikeouts, Detroit hammered four home runs off the former Tiger and snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday.

Astros crush Tigers 9-1

HOUSTON (AP) - Gerrit Cole wasn't as dominant as he has been throughout the first part of the season. He didn't need to be. Cole struck out eight in 5 2/3 strong innings, and the Houston Astros hit three home runs in a 9-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Cole (10-2) allowed one run and three hits with four walks after being activated from the bereavement list prior to the game.

HOUSTON (AP) - Dallas Keuchel is beginning to look like his old self, and that's welcome news for a Houston Astros team eyeing another title. Keuchel pitched six strong innings, three relievers completed the seven-hitter and Alex Bregman provided the offense by setting a career high with his 20th homer to give the Astros a 3-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.

Former Michigan State, Lions coach Darryl Rogers dies

DETROIT (AP) - Darryl Rogers, who coached Michigan State to a share of the Big Ten title in 1978 and later took the helm for the Detroit Lions, has died. He was 83.
