Metro Detroit weather: Quiet day before a wintry mix that arrives Wednesday

A much better start to your Tuesday – no dense fog, no accumulating snow.

It will be a quiet day with breaks in the overcast. It's a day to prepare for what could be a wintry mess Wednesday night.

We start to set the stage with colder air in place. Temperatures this morning are in the 20s instead of the 30s. Wind chill values settle into the teens.

Wednesday starts off dry for your morning commute and a little bit cooler. Moving through the day, clouds will increase with the threat of a mixed bag of precipitation coming in after 10 p.m. Freezing rain from the city south beginning after 2 a.m., extending Downriver into early Thursday morning, impacting your commute.

Monroe, South Monroe, Flat Rock, Taylor will get the mix with the system moving northward. Cold enough to support snow north of the city. That means New Baltimore, Macomb, Sterling Heights and Port Huron should receive snow.

Roads will be slick. Allow extra time for your morning commute on Thursday. Dry Friday with a chance for snow late Saturday into Sunday.

Below seasonal temperatures start off your work week next Monday.
