A 3-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a car in Ypsilanti with the driver now under arrest.

Police and fire responded to the scene in the West Willow neighborhood in Ypsilanti Township on the 4th of July.

Little Mia Lamb  was visiting a family barbecue on Carol Ann Avenue with her grandma. It is alleged the child was playing and ran out into the street, struck and killed by a man police say was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"All I saw was an ambulance and police racing up the street," said Latisha Agurs, who lives nearby. "My husband and I got up and walked over there and that's when we saw the ambulance, the police and just a horrific scene."

Agurs shot this video of the scene. Neighbors say the driver stopped, got out of his car appearing distraught. He was given field sobriety tests and placed under arrest.

The 54-year-old man taken into custody has not been arraigned - police say this is an ongoing investigation.

One that's left the family of little Mia too shaken to talk. But her great-aunt asking the community for prayers.

"It's just a lot right now for us to handle - we just want everybody to keep us in their prayers," said Stacey Lovely, the girl's great aunt. "She was a beautiful little girl. Just keep us in your prayers - but that's it for right now."
