Mary Hamana says her heart is broken after a thief or thieves swiped a 6-foot-tall Virgin Mary statue from the backyard of her recently deceased mother's home last week.

Hamana says that sometime on August 12, 2015, she had arrived at her recently deceased mothers home in St. Clair Shores to do some cleaning. Hamana says the house is in the process of being sold.

Hamana says she then walked to the backyard of the home and she immediately knew something was wrong. The 6-foot-tall Virgin Mary statue that was a family heirloom was missing.

According to her, the statue holds more meaning than anyone could imagine not only to her but to her whole entire family.

Mary's mother Donna had graduated from nursing school in 1967 and bought the statue for her parents as a thank you for helping her thru nursing school.

St. Clair Shores police say they're investigating but have little to go on. Hamana did not have a money value for the statue.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you're asked to call police immediately.
