Bashara to take stand for the first time in effort for new trial

A suburban Detroit man convicted of arranging his wife's death is expected to take the stand as part of his efforts to get a new trial. Bob Bashara's hearing in Wayne County Circuit resumes on Thursday morning before Judge Vonda Evans.

FOX 2 plans to stream Bashara's testimony. You can watch in the video player below, or by clicking here.

Bashara was getting ready to take the stand Wednesday when Evans said that Bashara's testimony might take several hours, and she would like a full day with his testimony. She halted the hearing and said they'd resume Thursday morning.

Bashara wants his murder conviction and life sentence thrown out, saying his rights were violated by a defense team that botched his case.

Jane Bashara of Grosse Pointe Park was found dead in 2012 inside her Mercedes-Benz, which was ditched in a Detroit alley.

Prosecutors have said 57-year-old Bob Bashara coerced handyman Joe Gentz into strangling her at their home. Gentz is in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder.
