Body found in building basement on Detroit's east side

Police are investigating after they say a body was found in the basement of a burning, vacant apartment building. Firefighters found the body early Tuesday morning at the complex, which is near Everts and King Richard streets.

Police have confirmed the person did not die of natural causes. Sources tell FOX 2 tracks in the snow tipped them off to what may have happened.

We're told the victim had been shot, and that he was alive when he was dragged out of a car that was parked in a dark alley behind the building, leaving a trail of blood in the snow. We're told the suspect, or suspects, also set fire to the victim's face.

A source tells FOX 2's Maurielle Lue that the position of the body indicated the victim was alive when set on fire.

Police say the snow may help in their investigation and that the suspect left a trail of evidence, but would not elaborate on what that is.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
