A neighborhood is on edge after two people are attacked at a gas station on Detroit's west side with at least one of those attacks by a man wielding a box cutter.

One of the attacks happened to a man who had stopped at an Exxon gas station on Fort Street in Detroit on his way to work.

According to police, the suspect jumped him and then slashed his throat with the box cutter. Miraculously, he is still alive but his condition unknown.

The victim's girlfriend, wanting to conceal her identity spoke to Fox 2 Tuesday. "Look at this world. It's just sickening. You can't even go pump gas."

The woman had just sent her boyfriend and father of her two children off to work for the day, soon after, he returned covered in blood, grasping his throat slashed by a man with box cutter who had stolen $700 from him.

"It was a decent amount of money but is it worth somebody's life? Taking them from their mom, their brother, their kids. their kids mother?"

Detroit police say the 23-year-old victim went inside the gas station around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. When he walked back to the pump, a man was standing there with a box cutter, and said, give me all your money or I'll slice your throat.

A fight broke out between the two, the suspect, cut the victim several times, then took off with the money in a 97 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The man who was slashed and robbed survived with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe these two men could be connected to the robbery and slashing they also say, two more men were robbed and threatened at the same gas station only an hour later.

No confirmation yet from police on how those victims are doing, or if the two incidents were connected.

The girlfriend of the first victim is confident police will make an arrest soon.
