Boy rushed to hospital after attacked by family dog, police say
DETROIT (WJBK) - A young child has been rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a dog in Detroit, according to police.
We're told the attack happened Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. in the 18500 block of Muirland Street, which is near Seven Mile and Livernois. Police tell us a 14-month-old boy was attacked by the family's pet dog.
The boy has been rushed to Children's Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Detroit Fire Department, who responded to the 911 call, tells us the dog was just recently adopted by the family from a shelter, within the past 10 days.
We're told the mother was in the kitchen when she heard the child screaming, and found the child had been bitten on the ear and the back of the head. The condition of the child isn't known at this time, but we're told the child needs sutures on the ear.
The family said they weren't sure of the dog's history. The dog is said to be a Gordon Setter.
