Cedar Point causeway closed after severe storm

Cedar Point and Soak City will be closed on Monday due to storm damage. The decision was made as a result of the downed lines and poles on the Cedar Point Causeway and the lack of adequate power to operate rides at full capacity.

The park anticipates opening again Tuesday.

The Cedar Point Causeway was closed after high winds damaged power lines in that area at just after 2:30 p.m. Tony Clark, Cedar Point spokesman, said Ohio Edison and local authorities were assessing the damage and were working to repair the lines as soon as possible.

Traffic to and from Cedar Point was being diverted to the Chaussee (Cedar Point Road). The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said utility lines and tree limbs were down throughout the county.

Sandusky Police Chief John Orzech says power lines and tree limbs were down in Sandusky, and many were without power.

He did say property damage was minimal, and there were no reports of injuries.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: Cedar Point officials say the park will be open on Tuesday, June 7. Guests who purchased dated admission or Fast Lane tickets for Sunday, June 5 or Monday, June 6 are welcome to use their tickets any other operating day during the 2016 season. Officials say there was no damage to the park itself.
